Shadow Liberal Democrat Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey has expressed his alarm about the inappropriate use of White Phosphorus in the Gaza Strip and has tabled a motion calling on the Government to clarify its position and do all it can to persuade the Israeli government to stop using such weapons.

Despite Israeli denials, the evidence that Israeli Defence Forces used White Phosphorus in the Gaza Strip during their offensive has become increasingly clear. A very interesting op-ed in the Guardian today by Leader Nick Clegg on the current Israel-Gaza conflict.

It is good to hear a senior politician standup and make such a statement. As the death toll rises and the violence continues on both sides it is certain that the current situation needs addressing urgently by members of the international community. 

Gordon Brown today again refused to rule out the prospect of UK support for unilateral Israeli action against Iran, in response to questioning from Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg.

Asked to make it clear that he would not give even tacit support to a unilateral Israeli strike on Iran, the Prime Minister said he would ‘not rule out any options’.
