Britain must not stand in way of EU Congo force

Commenting on reports that the UN Security Council is set to approve plans to send 3000 more peacekeepers to eastern areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, Edward Davey has said that while more UN troops are welcome, there is the risk they will not be deployed quickly enough and may lack the capacity to address the situation effectively.

The Security Council cannot palm this problem off on Africa alone. If there are countries willing to contribute to an EU force then Britain must not stand in their way.

I agree Britain must not stand in the way of an EU contribution to send peacekeepers to the Congo. However, I, along with many other friends, family and associates, are fed up with Britain and the USA always contributing larger numbers of troops to world-wide areas of conflict than any other of the UN member states. This not only results in our two countries receiving the most casualties, but also results in us taking the flak when things go wrong. I would like to call upon the representives from Britain on the UN security council to insist that the other member states contribute a fairer share of troop numbers in future conflicts.
