MOD Spends Millions Renting Empty Homes

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defence Secretary, Nick Harvey said:
“These figures are another kick in the teeth to armed forces families living in shoddy and substandard housing.
“Something has clearly gone very wrong when a family has to live with a broken boiler because rent on the condemned house up the road is soaking up their maintenance budget.
“Houses like these will never see another serviceman or woman again, yet they are still costing up to £3m per year.
“The very least our armed forces deserve is a decent standard of housing. This is further evidence that the Government’s financial ineptitude is denying them even that.”

It’s disgraceful how money is wasted. We’re about to spend £25bn on renewing trident yet our soldier’s are so badly treated. Lets concintrate on people rather than WMD.
I am living in service family accommodation and it is in really bad condition I do know that there are worse houses than mine but i have requested a new kitchen as mine is falling apart in my hands and a shower because the boiler dose not supply enough hot water to fill the bath and all the family have to share that. I have seen work taken out on a number of houses like new kitchens and bathrooms yet these houses stay empty. This all puts a hudge strain on our relationship as I am so unhappy here and it is not needed when we have to deal with my husband been on tour in afghanistan.
This is very sad. It is disgraceful that our government seems to have no idea how to look after our service personnel either at home or on the battlefield, but then of course we’re dealing with folk who are awfully keen on going to war but have no experience or understanding at all of service life.
